The Secret to Getting More Done

That friend you’ve been meaning to call.  That book you’ve been meaning to read.  That work you’ve been meaning to do.

The list goes on.

There’s never enough time.

So how do you get more done?

The Secret is 15 minutes.

Chunk out your time in 15 minuntes.

This forces you to do two things: put a little pressure on yourself to get it done in a short amount of time and think in manageable time increments.

It Motivates You

You may not have an hour or two, but maybe you have fifteen minutes.

When I’m faced with a window of time I want to get the most done and I find myself getting overwhelmed, I chunk it out.

I have fifteen minutes.  I can workout first.

I have fifteen minutes.  I can read that book that’s been on my nightstand.

It Sets You Up for Success

You’ll find you’re getting more done and not reflecting after an hour like I have frustrated that I’d been working and yet feel like I have nothing to show for it.  I didn’t even finish one blog post.

In this way of thinking I won’t try to complete one whole blog post.  Maybe I’ll just do the outline or reformat the pictures.  Just whatever 15 minutes gets me.  I can do more later.  It’s okay.

By restructuring my time and tasks, I have left more room for other activities I’ve always wanted to do but never felt I had the time to do.

I also make sure to prioritize the things I will get the most out of first and put the activities last that I get engrossed in (usually blogging or researching).

It Frees You

This can be done in smaller chunks of time too.

You may not have fifteen minutes but maybe you have five to write a note to a friend, say a few prayers, or read a morning devotional.

Retrain your time brain to see the time you have, not the time you don’t.

It works!

Try it and let me know how it goes.

May you find more time to do the things you love, time you didn’t know you had.
